POLITICAL WRAP: Stimulus on Hold as President Trump Pushes for $2,000 Checks

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The stimulus bill remains unsigned as President Trump digs in on his demand to increase direct payments to Americans.

“I am asking Congress to amend this bill and increase the ridiculously low $600 dollars to $2,000 dollars or $4,000 dollars for a couple. I’m also asking Congress to immediately get rid of the wasteful and unnecessary items from this legislation,” the President said last week.

Blame Game Over Hacking Culprit, Deal Reached on Covid Relief Package

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Lawmakers have reached a deal on a Covid-19 Relief package.

The 900 billion dollar package includes extra funding for Covid testing, federal loans to help keep small businesses open, and stimulus checks to those struggling to pay for food or rent.

This will be the second largest government stimulus package in history.

And, the blame game.  Secretary of State Mike Pompeo announced it was Russia that hacked into several U.S. Government agencies.

But, President Trump disagrees and blames China for the attack.

POLITICAL WRAP: Plans Changing Again for RNC in Charlotte; Stimulus Debate

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – This month’s Republican National Convention in Charlotte will be closed to the press. A convention spokesperson cites social distancing requirements and resulting capacity restrictions.

Not even all the delegates will be able to to cast votes in person.

Another Republican official tells CNN parts of the convention will be live streamed.

That includes the planned formal nomination of President Trump as the party’s candidate for predient.

Mary C. Curtis: Reopening NC & Relief Bill for Small Businesses

CHARLOTTE, NC — More COVID-19 relief is coming from a $480 billion dollar package for small businesses.

There’s also money for hospitals and testing.

The bill moves from the senate to the house where it is expected to be voted on Thursday.

South Carolina made the move to lift restrictions for some businesses.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The political and medical battle continues over when to re-open the states, with President Trump tweeting to “liberate,” backing protests in states led by Democratic governors.

And will there will be a second round of stimulus money for small business loans? A $349 billion rescue program ran out of money Thursday, just two weeks after it was launched. Could a deal be worked out soon?
